Barça already knows that Manchester City will not ask the moon to get rid of Cancelo

BarcelonaThe desire for Joao Cancelo to wear the Barça shirt this season is not a utopia. According to ARA, Manchester City wants to get rid of the footballer before the transfer market closes and is ready to facilitate his exit. This Thursday, the club presided over by Joan Laporta, through the right-back’s agent, Jorge Mendes, transmitted to the entity citizen Barça’s formal interest in Cancelo and the door was not closed. Until then, the English team had only received the interest of Arsenal and several teams from Saudi Arabia for the Portuguese player. The Catalan club’s proposal is a transfer with an option to buy and for Cancelo to take a reduced salary that Barça would assume in full (first, the player would have to accept it).

The City, for now, has not responded affirmatively. He will continue to wait for new proposals to arrive before deciding on the final one. But he is fully aware, because this is how Mendes also communicated to him, that Cancelo’s will is to go to Barça. The 29-year-old footballer does not have the best rapport with his coach, Pep Guardiola, and the current champion of the Champions League and the recent European Super Cup believes that he already has the right-back position sufficiently covered with Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis. On the other hand, Barça has suffered a deficit in this position since Dani Alves left in 2016. This fact has led to the fact that, since then, footballers who are not natural to the position have mostly played in that position, as is currently the case with Ronald Araujo, who will be out of action for a month.

Barça does not have the ability to pay for a transfer

The ideal setting for the citizens it would be to get rid of Cancelo definitively this summer, but they are aware of the financial difficulties that Barça is suffering and of the impossibility of being able to pay for a short-term transfer. Thus, they would not look down upon a transfer with a purchase option. In any case, this formula does not guarantee the arrival of the Portuguese. Right now, the Blaugrana club, with the League already started, still has four players waiting to be registered: the injured Iñigo Martínez, Iñaki Peña, Marcos Alonso and Alejandro Balde, who played in Getafe with a subsidiary card. Therefore, Barça cannot yet make a firm proposal to Manchester City, because they would not have the ability to sign Cancelo.

But the Blaugrana club has an ace up its sleeve that has all the numbers to solve this situation: the relever of Barça Media (the new name of Barça Studios), which became official last week. As explained by the ARA, at the moment Barça has only paid 40 million euros of the 60 million in total that it must receive before August 29. Of the money already satisfied from the relever, 20 have been put up by the German fund Libero Football Finance, in which ex-Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon is an adviser, while the other 20 come from an unidentified Cypriot investor who is placing the money through NIPA Capital, a Dutch fund. The remaining 20 must come from the hand of Libero. When Barça have them and have been able to free up salary mass with the departures of Clément Lenglet and Sergiño Dest, they will have the ability to deal with Cancelo’s operation before the summer transfer market closes. In any case, it would be a last-minute move.
