Until then, the English team had only received the interest of Arsenal and several teams from Saudi Arabia for the Portuguese player. The Catalan club’s proposal is a transfer with an option to buy and for Cancelo to take a reduced salary that Barça would assume in full (first, the player would have to accept it).
The City, for now, has not responded affirmatively. He will continue to wait for new proposals to arrive before deciding on the final one. But he is fully aware, because this is how Mendes also communicated to him, that Cancelo’s will is to go to Barça. The 29-year-old footballer does not have the best rapport with his coach, Pep Guardiola, and the current champion of the Champions League and the recent European Super Cup believes that he already has the right-back position sufficiently covered with Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis. Barça does not have the ability to pay for a transfer

Thus, they would not look down upon a transfer with a purchase option. In any case, this formula does not guarantee the arrival of the Portuguese. Right now, the Blaugrana club, with the League already started, still has four players waiting to be registered: the injured Iñigo Martínez, Iñaki Peña, Marcos Alonso and Alejandro Balde, who played in Getafe with a subsidiary card. Therefore, Barça cannot yet make a firm proposal to Manchester City, because they would not have the ability to sign Cancelo.
But the Blaugrana club has an ace up its sleeve that has all the numbers to solve this situation: the relever of Barça Media (the new name of Barça Studios), which became official last week. The remaining 20 must come from the hand of Libero. When Barça have them and have been able to free up salary mass with the departures of Clément Lenglet and Sergiño Dest, they will have the ability to deal with Cancelo’s operation before the summer transfer market closes. In any case, it would be a last-minute move.
