“Baltic Cup 2023” will see the best radio-controlled buggy drivers in the Baltics meet in Latvia

A four-time champion of Latvia and in 2019 the third place winner in the Baltic Cup in the radio-controlled buggy competition, Kristers trains at his home track in Anneniekos.

Krister Freimanis

participant of the radio-controlled buggy competition “Baltic Cup 2023”.

“This is my home track, of course I drive, so to speak I shoot at the track, at every hole. This year, unfortunately, the weather did not allow me to train enough, so that I could say that I am in perfect shape.”

Krister will, of course, fight for victory, but the fact that he will enter the top five is absolutely certain.

Christer and his dad Harald are trying to start the radio-controlled buggy with an internal combustion engine. Krister is more used to electric buggies, but this time he will compete in two classes and one of them will be the internal combustion engine radio controlled buggy class.

Buggies with an internal combustion engine are technically more demanding and also on the competition track an additional person is needed to look after it.

“The main thing is that we need one more person on the track to help add fuel, a mechanic. You charge the electric and drive,” says Krister.

Harald will be the mechanic of Krister’s internal combustion buggy.

“It’s different, the motor has to be turned on, the electric power is instantaneous, the same as with real cars,” explains Haralds Freimanis, owner of the RC track “Pērles”.

Harald will not only help his son Krister, but he is also the owner of the track. Training opportunities are wider in Estonia than in Latvia, so the northern neighbors usually get the highest places in the Baltic Cup. However, this route is unknown to Estonians, so the usual distribution of forces may change.

Owner of RC track “Pearl”.

“They are a step ahead, but even with the same minimum, ours are at a good level, already very close to Estonians. Let’s see, it will be interesting. The main thing is for the track to dry.”

Saturday will be the qualifying competition, so the track owner explains that Sunday will be the most exciting day of the competition. The best drivers in the Baltics will be determined on Sunday.
