On the last day of the World Athletics Championships today (08/27/2023) there are eight decisions to be made. It starts early with the men’s marathon, in the evening seven more gold medals will be awarded. Javelin thrower Julian Weber is the German hope for a medal. Men’s Marathon (7.00 a.m.)
With Haftom Welday and Johannes Motschmann, two DLV runners will start the marathon in the early morning. The 84 participants in the race will have to cope with the high temperatures in Budapest over the 42.195 kilometers. World record holder Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya and other stars of the running scene are not there – they prefer the more lucrative city runs such as the Berlin marathon.
High Jump Women (8:00 p.m.)
Christina Honsel narrowly made it into the final in qualifying with a height of 1.89 m. There she wants to jump personal best, which is currently 1.92 m. One of the medal candidates is the European champion Yaroslava Mahuchich from Ukraine, who won silver in Eugene last year.

Javelin throw men (8:15 p.m.)
In the javelin throw qualifier, European champion Julian Weber from Mainz did not go well with 82.39 m. The third of the world annual best list is still one of the medal candidates. His longest throw this year was 88.72 m. The Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and the world’s best of the year Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic will also have a say in the fight for the podium. Defending champion Anderson Peters from Grenada did not make it to the final.
5,000 m men (8:20 p.m.)
Will Jakob Ingebrigtsen still win World Cup gold? Over 1,500 m, Norway surprisingly lost out. Is it like Eugene? At the last World Championships it was “only” silver for Ingebrigtsen over 1,500 m before he became world champion over 5,000 m. Sam Parsons will not be there, the German-American fell in the heats and missed the World Cup final.

800m women (8:45 p.m.)
The defending 800m champion is Athing Mu from the USA, but she hasn’t been particularly fast this year. That’s different for Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson and Kenya’s Mary Moraa: Eugene’s silver and bronze medalists top the annual world bests list. Christina Hering from Munich did not make it to the final, she was eliminated in the semifinals.

3,000m Steeplechase Women (9:05 p.m.)
In the absence of the European Championship second Lea Meyer and Gesa Krause, World Cup third in 2015 and 2019, a German made it to the final with Olivia Gürth. If the mail goes off at the front, the German will probably not be able to keep up. The 19-year-old Kenyan Jackline Chepkoech is the only person to have run under nine minutes this season.
4×400 m relay (9.37/9.50 p.m.)
The German quartets will not be there in the fight for the relay medals over 4×400 m. In the men’s heats, the USA (2:58.47 min.) delivered the fastest time – ahead of India (2:59.05). In the women’s race, defending champion USA made a mistake and was disqualified. The Dutch women around top star Femke Bol had no problems reaching the finals, Jamaica’s team ran the best time of 3:22.74 minutes.
