Athletes or national athletes are national heroes. With their enthusiasm and determination, they are willing to sacrifice their energy, material and time in order to be able to make the nation proud in the world of international sports. When an athlete wins a match, he not only gets a number of prizes, but also a flood of attention and praise from the public.
However, the profession as an athlete has a short age limit, generally related to stamina which tends to decrease with age. The sad thing is, in Indonesia, after an athlete retires, there is no pension fund, old age security or other facilities that can support the welfare of athletes in the future.
Previously revered, now languishing, a row of former Indonesian athletes and their welfare have been paid little attention to by the state after a long retirement.
