Anthony Davis Signs Historic Contract Extension with Los Angeles Lakers

The 30-year-old extended his contract through 2028 in exchange for $62 million for each of the three seasons, a record amount in the American league.

NBA All-Star forward, Anthony Davisagreed to an extension of his contract with Los Angeles Lakers for three years and 186 million dollarsthe most lucrative annual contract extension deal in NBA history.

When finalized, the deal will link Davis to the Lakers through 2028 at a cost of $270 million, according to Rich Paul, Davis’ agent. The 30-year-old player had a contract with the Lakers until 2025 and extended it for three seasons, in exchange for 62 million for each of them, a record amount in the American league.

Davis, who helped the Lakers win the 2020 NBA crown along with four-time NBA MVP LeBron James, was a key factor in the Lakers’ run to the Western Conference finals in the last season. In that instance, they were swept by the eventual champion Denver Nuggets.

He averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.0 blocked shots and 1.1 steals per game last season.

The All-Star also had a career-best 56% shooting from the paint in his fourth season since being acquired in a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis became eligible for the maximum extension on Friday and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka wasted no time in securing the 7-foot-7 star for the franchise for another five seasons.

Davis will remain alongside the 38-year-old LeBron, as well as being a key figure in a solid group to bring another crown to the Lakers, who share the all-time NBA record with Boston with 17 titles.
