Eduard Spertsyan is still at the top of Ajax’s wish list. The 23-year-old playmaker of FK Krasnodar can look forward to the interest of a large number of clubs, but has set his sights on a switch to the record champion of the Netherlands, Fabrizio Romano reports. Ajax and Spertsyan have been linked to each other for quite some time, but a transfer seemed to be off the track after interference from the Supervisory Board.

Ajax already strengthened its selection in several positions this summer, but is still looking for a new attacking midfielder. However, a deal for Spertsyan seemed to be a difficult story, because it would not be moral to do business with the Russian FK Krasnodar because of the war in Ukraine. The Supervisory Board of Ajax did not give Sven Mislintat director of football affairs permission to remove Spertsyan from Russia for a long time.

For that reason, Maurice Steijn seemed to acknowledge after the last exhibition match against Borussia Dortmund (3-1 loss) that the arrival of Spertsyan was unlikely. “I actually don’t know the status of that at the moment,” the coach told Ziggo Sport at the time. “I think that will not happen because of the story with Russia. The exact story that Sven has to tell you. I have not heard anything about that.

However, according to Romano, a transfer is not yet completely off the track. The usually well-informed journalist reports that Spertsyan is still a ‘top target’ for last season’s Dutch number three. Romano writes that seventeen-time Armenian international, despite the interest of many different clubs, has set his sights on a transfer to Amsterdam. His contract in Russia runs until mid-2026.
