ACV Wins 4-2 Against Jong Sparta in Impressive Start to Amateur Football Season

ACV experienced an excellent overture at the highest amateur football level. The team of coach Ruud Jalving had few problems with Jong Sparta and won 4-2. All of ACV played well, Niels Grevink was the star.

Although the level of the Jong teams is sometimes difficult to estimate, Jong Sparta was by no means a weak opponent. The team of the new head coach Jeff Stans finished tenth in the second division last season and had an excellent preparation, with even a great 3-0 win against the peers of Young PSV, which plays in the first division.

Standard bearer

DVS’33 was also defeated by the young Rotterdam talents, of which Mehmet Yüksel is the standard bearer. Yüksel often scored in preparation and last weekend played half an hour with Sparta’s main force against PEC Zwolle.

Jong Sparta also got off to a strong start in Assen, where some 700 spectators witnessed ACV’s baptism of fire in the second division. After more than two minutes, the home team was behind. A rehearsed short corner surprised the Asser defense and via Yüksel the ball ended up with Rayvien Rosario, who fumbled the ball into the goal via the post and keeper Enver Spijodic: 0-1.

Impressive minute

Before the match against Jong Sparta, an impressive minute of silence was held in memory of Jack Soumeru, the former ACV midfielder who is still regarded as one of the best players ever to play for the Asser club.

Soumeru passed away on Saturday August 12 after a debilitating illness. He was 76 years old.

Few worries

That quick goal caused few worries, said trainer Jalving afterwards. ,,Of course I was very disappointed, you can’t give away that corner in the first place. But at the same time I knew: we have a great team, as long as we continue to execute our plan well there will be nothing wrong. And that happened.”

After fifteen minutes it was right again. Niels Grevink, as left winger by far the most dangerous man of ACV in that first half, made a fine action in the box and hit with his left: 1-1. ,,Yes, he was comfortable”, laughed the tall attacker who gave his word to SV Meppen during the winter break, but after ACV’s championship decided against returning to the German club where he had been for 2.5 years before. played. ,,SV Meppen is relegated, while ACV became champion. I really want to experience this season with this beautiful group”, Grevink motivated that decision.

Air only

After that 1-1, Spijodic and his defense had to be careful a few times. After Luka Prljic lost the ball, who played well, Jong Sparta was able to steam up and moments later there was a quick attack over the right that almost resulted in Rotterdam success. Jesse Bal, the 17-year-old top talent of Jong Sparta, then only hit air in a promising position.

Then ACV showed what has made the team so good for more than a year: a quick build-up from the back, with position changes and a lot of movement, a way of playing football that will cause problems for many teams in this division. Especially the tandem Tapmahoe Sopacua-Justin Mulder was on a roll, the two managed to find each other very well on the right flank. Also with the 2-1: Mulder set up, found the steamed Sopacua on the right and he found Freddy Quispel, who shot in flawlessly for 2-1.

Attack through the middle

Three minutes later, Grevink neatly shot the 3-1 against the ropes, after an attack that went through the middle. With that it was up to Young Sparta. ,,I thought we should continue playing in the second half as in the first”, said Jalving.

That only worked in the first ten minutes, when ACV had three chances in a row, but did not use them. After that, Jong Sparta gradually got stronger and in the 51st minute ACV was lucky that striker Dano Lourens headed just over on a cross from Dean Zandbergen.

Quispel only newcomer in the base

While Quispel was the only newcomer in ACV’s base, Bas Aalderink and Ibrahim Sillah also made an appearance after the break. Max Jasper and Yannick Hettinga played with the second team, Rick Boyer stayed on the bench.

Sillah almost prepared the 4-1 with a nice action, but substitute Boy Spijkerman just didn’t hit the ball well. Moments later, the same left winger made the decision. Now it was about the left: back Bannani played Spijkerman in and he shot in almost carelessly with the outside on the right: 4-1.

Arms in the air cheering

With that the game was over. In the closing minutes, a sloppiness in the back cost ACV another goal. Yüksel made it: 4-2. ,,But we didn’t get into trouble anymore”, said Jalving, who raised his arms in jubilation after the final whistle. “I think we executed our plan well today. That was the difference. With this win we can continue well. I’m very content.”

ACV is already waiting for the first (and only) derby in the Betnation League this Saturday: then the away game at HHC Hardenberg is on the roll.
