A suspension, a restraining order and a statement that the Federation deletes

Ninety days of suspension of his charges and a restraining order from Jenni Hermoso is the punishment that FIFA has imposed on Luis Rubiales as a result of the file that was opened on him last Thursday. The Spanish Federation has had no choice but to accept the decision of the world confederation and has confirmed the temporary suspension of Rubiales as president and the appointment as interim president of Pedro Rocha, president of the Extremadura Federation and a trusted man of Rubiales.

FIFA does not seem very impressed by Luis Rubiales’ speech before the Spanish football assembly in which he “accused” the player of having taken the initiative. “It was she who brought her body closer to me,” said Rubiales. The attack on the player did not stop there. At night the Spanish Federation issued a statement in which it charged again against the player. “The President’s version of events is verified in the internal files that have been opened, without Ms. Jennifer Hermoso having responded to any of the requests made to date,” he said. And she accompanied him with a series of photographs that allegedly confirmed Luis Rubiales’ version.

On Saturday afternoon, the Federation published and later deleted a statement in which it accused the world champion of lying and of being “abducted by her union.” «Once the RFEF has proven that the player Ms. Jennifer Hermoso was lying in the statements she made, through the FutPro Union, we have learned of a new statement –now, from the player– where, in a text clearly prepared by third parties […] Ms. Jennifer Hermoso is lying in all the statements she makes against the President,” that statement said. And she added later: «The serious contradictions in the initial account of what happened […] and the serious accusations made by Ms. Hermoso since she was abducted by the FutPro Union lead us to ask ourselves whose interests respond to the surprising change in the initial version and qualification of the facts”, added the statement that the Federation made disappear shortly after going public.

That statement was issued after FIFA made public the suspension of Rubiales and the granting of Jenni Hermoso the protection granted to a victim of harassment. «The president of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Iván Palacio (Colombia) […] has agreed to the provisional suspension of Mr. Luis Rubiales from all soccer-related activities at the national and international level,” says the statement from the world soccer association. A suspension that will be effective for 90 days while the file that FIFA itself opened for him last Thursday is processed.

And it added: «in order to preserve, among other factors, the fundamental rights of the player of the national soccer team Mrs. Jennifer Hermoso and the good order of the disciplinary procedure […] orders Mr. Luis Rubiales to refrain, through himself or third parties, from contacting or attempting to contact the professional player of the Spanish national team Ms. Jennifer Hermoso or her close entourage. Likewise, the RFEF and its officers or employees, directly or through third parties, are ordered to refrain from contacting the professional player of the Spanish national team Ms. Jennifer Hermoso or her close environment ».

In Spain, while sports justice continues its procedures. “FIFA’s decision corresponds to the application of the regulations of a private entity and that in no case is an obstacle for the Government of Spain to send, as it did yesterday afternoon, to the TAD a complaint thoroughly analyzed in which we believe that the arguments are weighty arguments and the Government’s road map is not modified by FIFA’s decision. We continue on our way,” explained Víctor Francos, the president of the CSD, at the start of the first stage of La Vuelta in Barcelona.

Pedro Rocha, the heir

►Luis Rubiales has chosen as successor, or as executor of his federative will, Pedro Rocha, the president of the Extremadura Federation. The only vice president he seemed to trust to the point that he’s the only one left after Friday’s caucus. Rocha was a futsal player before joining the coaching staff and board of Cacereño. Since 2013 he has been president of La Extremeña and since Rubiales became president of the RFEF he is one of its vice presidents.
