1. FC Köln in the Summer Transfer Window: Dominique Heintz’s Potential Return and Search for a Striker

It’s going into the hot transfer phase of the summer. The change window is still open until Friday (September 1, 2023, 6 p.m.). Until then there is still a lot of movement in the player market.

Something will definitely happen at 1. FC Köln as well. The return campaign by Dominique Heintz (30) is almost certain. The deal is already on the home stretch. When asked about the ex-FC kicker, Steffen Baumgart (51) only got one telltale thing out of it on Tuesday (August 29, 2023): “An interesting name”.

Player search at 1. FC Köln: Dominique Heintz should come

The left foot is planned as a backup for Jeff Chabot (25). Experience and his successful past in Cologne speak for “Heintzi”: In total, he played 108 competitive games for the billy goats in three years before he was sold to SC Freiburg for three million euros in 2018 after relegation.

Heintz’ next assignment in the Bundesliga would be career game number 200 in the football upper house. And because Union Berlin still wants to thin out its bloated squad with currently over 30 players, the iron would not put any obstacles in the way of the veteran who has moved into the second rank.

His contract at the Alte Försterei runs for a year, Union Heintz had already parked on loan at VfL Bochum last season.

The only thing missing is an additional striker. Because contrary to Christian Keller’s (44) public statement that he is sufficiently well positioned up front, those responsible are exploring the striker market very intensively.

1. FC Köln looking for a striker – Baumgart: Anything is possible until Friday

Davie Selke (28) recently had to leave the field repeatedly, behind him the air is getting thinner quickly. Steffen Tigges (25) has just returned from a long injury break, Florian Dietz (25) is finding it difficult to get back on his feet after tearing his cruciate ligament from the previous season.

After the first session of the new week in Cologne, Baumgart also hinted that something could still happen here. The coach said: “I’m sure anything is possible by Friday. We’ll keep looking and keep an eye on everything. If someone comes, it’s nice. But I’m always happy with what I have.”

Two new ones are to come, but two more could make the turn. Because Kristian Pedersen (29) and Dimitris Limnios (25) have probably received a clear indication internally that they will not play the roles that they present themselves.

Both were in the squad in the DFB Cup in Osnabrück and in the Bundesliga opener at BVB, but played no role in the Wolfsburg squad. Should adequate offers be received by both of them by Friday, no obstacles would be put in the way of the duo.
