Yanis Meziane (800m) and the 4x400m women European U23 champions

Yanis Meziane won the 800m of the European U23 Championships (under 23) on Sunday in Espoo (Finland). Winner this season of the Andujar meeting, Meziane narrowly won ahead of the Briton Ethan Hussey and another Frenchman Paul Anselmini. With a record over the distance of 1’44”78 since the Charléty meeting, Boris Le Helloco’s protege achieved 1’45”92 against 1’45”95 for the Briton and 1’45”99 at Anselmini.

Another French success for the women’s 4×400 m, composed of Léa Thery-Demarque, Cassandra Delaunay-Belleville, Pauline Toriel and Louise Maraval. The French quartet won in 3’30”60, two hundredths ahead of the Swiss team. A little earlier in the day, Louise Maraval had taken second place in the 400m hurdles, bringing her personal best to 55”83.

In the pole vault competition won by Finland’s Juho Alasaari (5.71 m), junior world champion Anthony Ammirati settled for fifth place (5.50 m), but the French pole vault school won a new podium with the second place of Robin Emig with 5.66 m. Finally, in the 3000m steeplechase, Baptiste Guyon took third place in 8’33”64.
