Wout van Aert’s Tour Performance and Outlook for the World Cup

Wout van Aert left the Tour on Tuesday evening to attend the birth of his second son. Despite the fact that Van Aert did not take a stage victory, big boss Richard Plugge is still satisfied.

Van Aert won no less than nine stages in his previous four participations in the Tour. It failed in his fifth participation. He was second twice and third twice. But at Jumbo-Visma they think they have done everything they can.

“Winning a Tour stage is one of the hardest things in sport. It doesn’t come to order. It’s a pity that it didn’t work out on the one hand, but on the other hand… that’s how it goes,” says Richard Plugge at HLN.

Cool lover of WK

Van Aert will soon be one of the top favorites for the World Cup in Glasgow. But like Patrick Lefevere, Richard Plugge is a cool lover of the World Cup with national teams.

“Suddenly your rider is riding in a different shirt. You know my opinion about jerseys: I don’t like them at all. Because I often find the price much too big for the race, especially at national championships.”
