War between First League referees

BarcelonaThe arbitration news is still in the media foreground. If during the last few hours the insults and threats to the then referee Xavier Estrada Fernández by the president of the CTA during a seminar where there were 160 members and reporters have come to light, the ARA has had access to the facts that they happened on May 9. That day it was published that Maria Medina Jiménez, the president’s daughter, had taken up her new position coinciding with the appointment of Luis Medina as head of the Technical Committee of Referees.

After learning this information, Estrada visited the LinkedIn profile of the president’s other daughter, and the top Andalusian leader did not hesitate to send him an audio on his cell phone: “Can you explain to me what you are doing looking at my LinkedIn little daughter After everything that has come out of the great, I do not understand what is the curiosity to see the professional profile of my daughter Natàlia and I would like you to explain to me what this is about, okay? There are limits that cannot be crossed even though it is a public network. Tell me what the story is that you are looking at this profile of my little daughter”. Estrada said absolutely nothing to the CTA president.

Previously, the international referee had denounced both Enríquez Negreira and the RFEF, and Medina had defined him in Catalan as a “traitor and bad companion” in front of the media. He also referred to Estrada in an internal seminar, using phrases like “to call him a rat is too much for the quality he has, at most he is a hamster”. Sportingly, Medina Cantalejo sent the international referee to do VAR duties in a van that was parked in the building attached to Las Rozas while his teammates acted in the VOR Room as normal.

In this context of open war, it is surprising that Medina Cantalejo dared to communicate with Estrada and even more so that he referred to “the lines that cannot be crossed”. Just 12 days later, Estrada and his fellow VARs were removed from their duties and were not named in Matches 37 and 38, the last two of the League.

The eldest daughter of Medina coincided in the same company with a First Division referee before entering the RFEF

Estrada visited the professional profile of Natalia Medina, youngest daughter of the president of the referees, but the trajectory that raised suspicions was that of Maria Medina, the eldest daughter. The first-born started working at the RFEF in March 2021 in the field of women’s football. At the time, her father was in charge of referees in the old Second Division B. When Rubiales decided that the Andalusian would take over from Velasco Carballo, Maria Medina was also promoted and given a place in the Federation’s finance department .

Before joining the RFEF, Maria Medina worked as a coordinator at the Centro Superior de Formación de Europa Sur (CESUR), a company dedicated to professional training and education. Curiously, Jorge Figueroa Vázquez, First Division referee, also worked there, holding a management position.

Figueroa Vázquez was born in Seville and made his debut in the First Division in the 2020/21 season, aged 40. Medina Cantalejo, also from Seville, came to the chair in November 2021, even though months earlier the relay was already being prepared thanks to the fact that Velasco Carballo was aiming for a high position at UEFA. Today, Medina is still president and Figueroa continues to referee in Primera.
