Want to give adrenaline, the reason Ipswich Town manager plays Elkan Baggott

Despite feeling a bit irritated, McKenna was relieved the younger players had overcome the panic to prevent Preston from leveling.

Ipswich Town manager Kierran McKenna revealed the reason for playing a number of young players, including Elkan Baggott, in the last ten minutes when he beat fellow EFL Championship contestants, Preston North End, with a score of 2-1, Thursday (20/7) early morning WIB, in Deepdale.

McKenna brought on Baggott in the 83rd minute to replace Luke Woolfenden, or moments after Preston scored to reduce the arrears. It’s just that, Baggott’s presence actually made Ipswich’s defense not solid.

As a result, Preston was able to present a serious threat that forced goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky to fall up and down to avoid conceding a goal. Score 2-1 finally did not change.

McKenna said he didn’t think too much about the final result in the trial, so he pulled out two experienced centre-backs. According to him, entering young players in the last ten minutes was part of his plan.

“That will always be the case with the amount of change [pemain],” said McKenna quoted page Ipswich Star.

“You play with players who are out of position all over the place in the second half. On the one hand I enjoy it. If we were really worried about the result, we wouldn’t have brought out two centre-backs. It’s just like we planned, in the 80th minute.”

Even though he admitted that he was a bit annoyed with the performance shown by the team in the last ten minutes, McKenna had his own reasons for fielding these young players. McKenna was relieved the players managed to overcome the panic to prevent Preston from leveling.

“I’m happy to see the team get through it. It was a great experience, especially for Fin [Barbrook] and Ryan (Carr), even Elkan. They get ten minutes to play over the line.”

“It was an opportunity to feel the adrenaline, feel the pressure. Carrsy managed to block the ball before it crossed the line. It was a great experience for them.”

“A bit sloppy of course, but the boys will feel much better, because we managed to keep the result. I’m glad to see them in that environment, and other players are also feeling the joy of the last few blocks. It was a great way to finish the game in some ways.”
