His name has been haunting Inselpark in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg for a while. Now it’s official: Vincent King Jr. “VJ” King (26) is the first newcomer to the Towers!
The “King” comes from England, played last season in the British BBL for semi-finalists Bristol Flyers. And signed a one-year contract with the towers.
“I followed VJ closely last season and wanted to bring him to Hamburg back then,” says coach Benka Barloschky (35). “VJ has incredible potential at both ends of the field. He brings an exciting package of size, skill and athleticism.”
The 1.98 meter tower averaged 18.2 points last season. For this he was awarded player of the year on the island in early May. “For me it’s all about having fun on the field,” says King about himself. “And I know that works best when the team works. I’m willing to give whatever it takes.”
The Cleveland winger learned that attitude on the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. The Catholic private school became known through its most famous graduate: Superstar LeBron James (38/Lakers).

His father Vincent (53) played basketball in Hungary. The son was also drawn across the Atlantic after his NBA dream had not come true. King: “Playing here in Europe gives me the opportunity to see different countries. My experience shows that the sport is played a little differently in every place. I am very grateful for the chance to see the small differences in the game and at the same time get to know new countries and the people there.”
The Towers hope that their new No. 13 will also have the quality for the Bundesliga and the EuroCup. Sports director Marvin Willoghby (45): “We are optimistic that he can take the next step in development with us.”
