Victor Wembanyama Makes Debut with San Antonio Spurs in Las Vegas Summer League

The Thomas & Mack Center was packed to see the debut of Victor Wembanyama, the first player recruited in the last Draft, with the San Antonio Spurs in the Las Vegas Summer League against the Charlotte Hornets and the French unicorn began his journey in the league summer with a 76-68 win.

Although it wasn’t the best shooting night, shooting 2-of-13 for nine points, Wembanyama was able to show off his other talents on the court. The giant from Le Chesnay grabbed eight rebounds, handed out three assists and blocked five shots.

The French teammates accompanied him with good performances to get the win. Julian Champagnie had 20 points and eight rebounds while Barlow was close to a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. Guard Malaki Branham added 17 points thanks to four triples, two two-pointers and a free kick scored.

The San Antonio team in the Summer League will be under the management of head coach Matt Nielsen, who has served as assistant coach for the Spurs since 2021. The Texan franchise will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday the 9th (8:00 p.m. ET), the Washington Wizards on Tuesday the 11th (22:30 ET) and the Detroit Pistons on Friday the 14th (20:30 ET).
