SANTO DOMINGO.- In his official presentation as the new leader of the Leones del Escogido, Víctor Estévez, declared that his goal is to lead the scarlet team to the crown of champions.

“My expectations are very high and they are very firm. I have the faith that we can achieve it and that we are prepared to compete and obtain the 17th cup for the Chosen One”, stated Estévez.

The new scarlet foreman thanked God for the opportunity he received, as well as the Board of Directors and Operations Management for trusting him to lead the club.

“This is a very big commitment that I assume with a lot of responsibility and character”, he commented.

For his part, Rojas stated that Estévez stood out among the candidates interviewed by the Chosen One by impressing with his knowledge of the game and the Dominican autumn-winter circuit.

“He’s a great student of the game, a growing mind and someone who works collaboratively, which is very healthy for the clubhouse. It was what we were looking for. It combines youth, energy and knowledge. The players are going to identify with him and he will lead us towards the crown”, said Rojas.

He was born on September 8, 1988 in the city of Santo Domingo. He played professional in the minor leagues for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2007 to 2010, serving as an infielder.

He is currently in his second year as the manager of the Carolina Mudcats, Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. With the Brewers organization he has 10 years of service, including managing the Brewers team in the Dominican Summer League from 2016 to 2021.

As for fall-winter baseball, Estévez led the Vaqueros de Montería of the Colombian Professional Baseball League in the 2021-22 tournament, guiding the team to the final series.

In the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic, Estévez served as quality control coach for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the 2022-23 season.

Before that, he was part of the El Escogido family, having served as the Lions’ first-team and infielders coach in 2020-21.
