After Florian Müller’s change, VfB Stuttgart is looking for a new goalkeeper. Two possible candidates are under contract with FC Bayern Munich:
Update from June 27th: On Monday evening, VfB Stuttgart will announce what has been speculated for a long time: Goalkeeper Florian Müller will leave the club and return to SC Freiburg. So the search for a new goalkeeper is picking up speed. The Bild newspaper reported that the two Bayern goalkeepers Yann Sommer and Alexander Nübel should be candidates.

“Florian Müller is an impeccable sportsman with a highly professional attitude. He was an extremely stable support for us in the special pressure situation of the relegation. In joint discussions, we have now agreed that a move from Flo to SC Freiburg is a sensible and appropriate step for all sides,” says VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth about the goalkeeper’s change. It is not yet known when VfB Stuttgart will present a successor to Müller.

First report from June 24th: VfB Stuttgart is looking for a new regular goalkeeper for the new season. Neither Fabian Bredlow nor Florian Müller were able to fully convince in the past season. The latter is said to be about to move to SC Freiburg. But who will be the new number one in Swabia?

Prominent names should be on the VfB candidate list: Like them Bild newspaper reported on Saturday (June 24), the Stuttgart team is dealing with Alexander Nübel and Yann Sommer, both of whom are currently under contract with FC Bayern. Nübel last played for two years on loan at AS Monaco and is now returning to Munich.

Since Nübel, whose contract with the record champions runs until 2025, apparently does not want to be number two behind Manuel Neuer, another loan should be in the pipeline. The Swiss summer, on the other hand, could gain match practice for the EM 2024 in Germany as a regular goalkeeper at VfB. At the Cannstatters, the 34-year-old would also meet goalkeeping coach Steffen Krebs, with whom he already worked at Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, a fee would be due for Sommer due to his current contract.

Through coach Sebastian Hoeneß, VfB Stuttgart has good connections to FC Bayern. There the 41-year-old won the third division championship three years ago with the second team before moving to TSG Hoffenheim. He is also the nephew of Honorary President Uli Hoeneß.
