Venezuela fell 80-54 to the USA this Saturday in its debut at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023, which takes place in León, Mexico.
The game had two faces for those of Eduardo Pinto. In the first they paid dearly for their ineffectiveness in field goals (13.1%), but in the second they showed themselves capable of competing one on one with the American champion.

The USA took advantage of their superiority in the paint and won the first quarter, ending 20-5 and by half time the difference was 30 points (46-16).
Upon returning from the locker room, the Creoles managed to play a better game.
Bárbara Pico changed the face of the team in that second half. She scored five points in a row and allowed Venezuela to show a much more competitive face. The USA took that third set, but only by six points.
For the final 10 minutes, the score was 66-33, but “the girls” never gave up and leaned on Ivaney Márquez and Daniela Wallen to win that quarter 24-14.
Wallen was the best in Venezuela with 14 points and four rebounds, followed by Aguehil Fajardo (10 points) and Bárbara Pico (9).
For the USA the best was Angel Reese, who was close to a double-double, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
