Van der Sar remains in intensive care, but his life is out of danger

Famous football goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is out of danger after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The condition of the fifty-two-year-old Dutchman is stable, but he must remain in the intensive care unit. His long-time club Ajax Amsterdam informed about it, referring to the statement of the former goalkeeper’s wife Annemarie.

“He communicates every time we visit. We have to be patient and watch how his condition develops,” Van der Sar’s wife said.

Van der Sara suffered a brain bleed last week. According to the newspaper De Telegraaf, he was on vacation on one of the Croatian islands at the time, from where he was transported by helicopter to the hospital.

The nearly two-metre-tall former goalkeeper played for Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and Manchester United during a 21-year professional career and won 26 trophies, including two Champions League victories. In the Dutch national team, he caught 130 matches and took part in bronze medals at two European championships. He was named the best goalkeeper in Europe twice.
