Tour de France: what you need to know about the route and profile of the 18th stage between Moutiers and Bourg-en-Bresse

After a trying stage, the hardest of the 2023 Tour, the survivors of the peloton will be entitled to a calmer day. The stage will be flat and victory will probably be in the sprint

Moutiers – Bourg-en-Bresse 184.9 km

Publicity caravan departure: 11 a.m. – Fictitious departure: 1 p.m. – Expected arrival around 5:30 p.m.

The number: 6

This is the sixth time that the city of Bresse has hosted the Tour de France. The last time there was a finish here was in 2007 and the sprint victory for Belgian Tom Boonen, who on that occasion wore the green jersey which he then wore all the way to Paris.

Our favourites.

Difficult, when so many sprinters have already left the race, not to imagine the Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin -Deceuninck) aiming for a fifth stage victory on this Tour. The other competitor is the Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla). On this flat stage, a grouped finish seems almost inevitable

“Let’s call this day a respite or the return of the glimmer of hope for sprinters to return to the front of the stage. There, the watchword was clearly: we are doing as flat as possible because we have asked enough of the organizations the previous days. To tell you, we even decided to go through the cat tunnel to avoid the peloton having to climb again! No really, everything was done with the well-being of the sprinters in mind. Afterwards, let’s remember that we are in the third week. And there could be a match between breakaways and the sprint teams. And the finish, at the foot of the magnificent monastery of Brou, will be at the end of a very beautiful straight line. It’s ideal for a nice sprint. Provided you have done what is necessary before vis-à-vis possible breakaways. »
