TOM France Hackathon: Harnessing Tech Innovation for Disabled Sports

After the success of its first edition, the association TOM France – tech at the service of the disabled – returns to Paris to host a hackathon on July 10 and 11, at Ground Controlin the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Le principe du hackathon? Put the talents of French tech and industry at the service of the handicapped for 48 hours. Fifteen teams of Makers (engineers, designers, developers) each work around a project led by a person with a disability who has identified a concrete challenge in their daily life.

All the innovations found are then made available to everyone on the internet, free of rights.

In preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, all the challenges the teams will be working on will relate to sport. The two-day event will be punctuated by presentations from major tech and sports players, including Ryadh Sallem, wheelchair rugby player and three-time European champion with the French team.

Many sports activities and interventions around the impact of tech and disabled sports will be offered to visitors and participants. Among the challenges that will be taken up during this hackathon:

RUGBY : The flagship project of the hackathon will be led by Ryadh Sellem. A team of 10 makers from tech companies and French industry will be around him to design a solution that will allow players from the French rugby and wheelchair basketball teams to stay warmed up when they are not active. in the field
FOOTBALL : a warning signal if a wheelchair gets too close to a person or an obstacle
BASKETBALL : a device for throwing a ball for a wheelchair user with limited arm movement
HORSE RIDING : a horse saddle adapted for a person in a wheelchair
DANSE : a device allowing a person in a wheelchair to dance at the same level as their able-bodied partner.
