They foresee a harvest of 28.5 million tons of white and yellow corn in 2023 – El Sol de México

The production of white and yellow corn will grow by more than two million tons to reach 28.5 million tons this year, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader).

And bean production is expected to increase 18.9 percent and go from one million tons to one million 816 thousand tons, according to the production expectations of the Agro-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP).

This production is the result of various factors, among others, the direct, timely and free delivery of fertilizer to producers, especially small-scale ones that cultivate 2 million hectares.

Sader details that, for example, in Guerrero, the increase was 227 kilograms per hectare, going from 2.6 tons per hectare in 2018 to 2.9 tons per hectare in 2022.

This represented that last year, the production of the state of Guerrero was almost 1.5 million tons, this is 218 thousand 722 tons more than those produced in 2018 when the harvest was 1.2 million tons of grain.

In the state of Morelos, the increase in corn production was 534 kilograms per hectare. It went from 4.3 tons per hectare in 2019 to 4.9 tons per hectare in 2022.

Last year, the total production in the Morelense entity of 190 thousand 910 tons. This is 28,560 tons more than the 2018 harvest, which reached 162,350 tons of grain.

Another example was Tlaxcala, which obtained an increase of 68 kilograms of corn per hectare. It went from 2.9 tons per hectare in 2019 to 3 tons in 2022.

Thus, corn production was 361,413 tons, that is, 51,416 tons more than the 2018 harvest, which reached 162,350 tons of corn.
