A collaborative project between INEFI and the New York Yankees
The renovated baseball stadium of the Oratorio María Auxiliadora (OMA) was inaugurated in Santo Domingo, thanks to the collaboration between the Instituto Nacional de Educación Física (INEFI) and the famous New York Yankees baseball team. The main event was presided over by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña.
The first of many projects
This initiative represents the first major project resulting from a recently signed agreement between INEFI and the Yankees to work together to promote school baseball. The idea was born as a way to support the initiative of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in favor of public-private alliances.
A new future for school sport
Vice-President Raquel Peña highlighted the importance of these initiatives, declaring that every rehabilitation or renovation of sports facilities represents new opportunities for the development of young people. Alberto Rodríguez Mella, executive director of INEFI, and Joel Lithgow, coordinator of the Yankees academy in the Dominican Republic, underlined the importance of the project for the local educational community. They said the renovation of this baseball stadium is part of a larger strategy to promote baseball in schools across the nation.
A dream come true
With the renovation of the stadium, the community of María Auxiliadora and the surrounding neighborhoods will now have a safe space for leisure and recreation. This new structure will serve as a sports center for the approximately 360,000 inhabitants who belong to the community of district three of the Distrito Nacional.
