Already since 1956, Pļaviņš was inseparably connected with Latvian basketball, with the destinies of many people and the life events of Latvian basketball. He was a coach of youth teams at Riga 2nd Children and Youth Sports School, then at Valteras Basketball School and BJBS “Riga”. The best-known students are the long-time VEF master team leader Ivars Žvīgurs, Olympic champion Igors Miglinieks, Anete Muižniece-Brice, Latvian national team leaders Kārlis Muižnieks, Roberts Štelmahers and Kristaps Janičenoks.
Since 1959, a judge of the All-Union category, for many years he worked as a commissioner of basketball games.
After the restoration of Latvia’s independence, Pļaviņš was a long-time executive director of the Latvian Youth Basketball League, head of the Youth Basketball Methodical Center, head of the BJBS “Rīga” structural unit, reports LBS.
