The Judo Team from Sportfreunde Friedberg Takes the Top Spot in Bayernliga After Victory Against Abensberg

With a win against Abensberg, the judo team moves up to the top: Sportfreunde Friedberg are now top of the table in the Bayernliga final.

The final of the Bavarian Judo League takes place as a long-distance duel: After the SF Friedberg judo team sensationally beat the second team of TSV Abensberg at home with 13:7 points, the championship will be decided next Saturday. Sports fans can win the championship title or become runners-up if they win against SF Harteck. The score in the encounter between KG Grafing-Bad Aibling and TSV Aschaffenburg, who have the same number of points, will also be decisive.

Friedberg reaped strong victories

The prerequisite was the team victory of the Friedberg judo team against TSV Abensberg on the sixth day of the Bayernliga. “Due to failures, we couldn’t put all our judoka on the mat again,” regrets coach Sebastian Mayr. “But that wasn’t necessary at all, because the Abensbergers surprisingly started with fewer fighters than allowed and thus individual matches could be won without a fight.” The first round began with strong opening victories: Nico Wachter catapulted Konstantin Weinmann with a rolled inside sickle throw (Ko-Uchi -Makikomi) to the mat, while Olympic competitor Tareq Jamal forced Magnus Trauner to submit (both up to 73 kg) in the hold.

Also in the following weight class up to 81 kg, the Friedbergers defeated Sebastian Harter with a foot throw and grab handle as well as Florian Mayr with an arm lock in the floor position. The mood in the Vinzenz-Pallotti-School’s sports hall got better and better and reached its climax when Sebastian Mayr in the heavyweight division threw Ahmed Almesh on his back with a counter technique and then held him in place. The final score was 8:2 and due to the lack of occupations, the team victory was mathematically already secured. Victories in the second half of the season by Tareq Jamal in the middleweight division with a low shoulder throw and Andreas Neureuther with a choke technique increased the result to a final score of 13:7 points. The match was also observed by Olympic runner-up in Montreal and third-placed from Los Angeles Günther Neureuther, who had accompanied his son to Friedberg.

This means that the judoka of SF Friedberg are currently at the top of the table in the Bayernliga. In the last team match, the Friedberg judo team competes against SF Harteck away from home, while the runner-up, KG Grafing – Bad Aibling, hosts TSV Aschaffenburg in the home match. If Friedberger and Aiblinger want to decide the championship for themselves with corresponding victories, their two competitors fight against relegation. “We can only hope that the Ascheberger fighters will also compete and not give up the encounter without a fight,” explains coach Sebastian Mayr, explaining the slight fear of the sports fans and is prepared for the fact that the decision will probably be extremely close. Ultimately, the sub-items will be decisive. (AZ)
