The German Control Tower: Leon Kratzer Joins Paris Basketball

The German control tower joins Paris Basketball. Measuring 2.12m for 110 kg, the former Bonn pivot brings his power and efficiency to the Parisian workforce.

A true part of Tuomas Iisalo’s squad in Bonn, Kratzer has been a German international since 2021. Aged 26, the native of Bayreuth, Bavaria, has risen brilliantly through all the levels in his country: international in the youth categories, he has played in the European U16 Championship in 2013, the European U18 Championship in 2015, then the European U20 Championship two years later.

It should be noted that his father, Marc Suhr, evolved at the university level in the United States (University of Connecticut), before achieving an honorable career in Germany. A 2.15m pivot, Suhr trained between Hamburg and Bayreuth, via Bonn and Treviso, in Italy.

The Bavarian Ascent

Leon Kratzer, he began his career in 2013 on the side of the German ProB (3rd division), with the Baunach Young Pikes club. With his training club, he experienced a rise in ProA (2nd division) in 2014, before joining the following year another Bavarian club, Brose Bamberg. Barely landed in his new club, he was immediately loaned to… Baunach, where he was elected MVP of the ProA at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

Kratzer is averaging 14.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He also finished as the best blocker in the Championship and won the German Cup with Bamberg in 2017. He, who wanted to have playing time in the Basketball Bundesliga, decided to join, still on loan, s.Oliver Würzburg

At the end of the 2017-2018 season, the German pivot signed up for the Skyliners Frankfurt team, where he would stay for two years.

In Bonn, a new dimension

Heading for Bonn in 2020. In a well-oiled collective, meticulously concocted by Tuomas Iisalo, Leon Kratzer will take on a new dimension, in particular over the course of a last 2022-2023 fiscal year crowned by a superb victory in the Champions League, a status of vice- German champion and good personal stats: 7.48 pts and 6.34 rebounds per game over 62 games in all competitions. No doubt: Kratzer is typically the player hired for his team, ready to give everything to protect the circle!

His coach, Tuomas Iisalo, measures him better than anyone:

“Leon made huge progress last season. He has proven to be one of the best pivots in the Bundesliga. Defensively, he displays an incredible presence, which will bring the team a lot of stability in addition to his enormous ability to take rebounds.

Despite his young age, Leon is already very experienced and I am confident that he will continue to develop as he enters the best years of his career. »
