The Dallas Cowboys Sign New Kicker, Brandon Aubrey, Adding Competition to the Roster

News continues to arrive regarding the cowboy wardrobe. And this time, it was something to be expected. The Dallas Cowboys have acquired the services of a new kicker. All this in order to give Tristan Vizcaino competition just a few weeks after the start in the Oxnard training camp. So consequently, we will have a kicker’s duel once the team begins its activities in California.

The item in question is Brandon Aubrey. A kicker who was extremely successful in the USFL between 2022 and 2023. On an interesting note, this is not just a football player as such. But for many years he belonged to another discipline.

Aubrey’s case is totally to highlight. Since he started as a soccer player and ended up at Toronto FC as the 21st pick in the 2017 Draft. However, he would only play as a defensive professional for a couple of seasons and then he would see luck in another sports discipline, in this case american football. Brandon would end up being selected as a kicker for the Birmingham Stallions in the 2022 USFL Draft, ending his contract on July 3 of this year, and signing with the Dallas Cowboys three days later.

As far as his stats go, Aubrey did a great job with the Stallions. He making 14 of 15 field goal attempts and a total of 35 extra points. It now remains to be seen what he can prove in his arrival in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. Since he also comes from winning with Birmingham for two consecutive years.

Without a doubt, this signing could be considered a surprise, especially since veterans of the league are still available on the market, such as Mason Crosby and Robbie Gould. However, in the offices they know how to do their job very well, as could be seen last year.

For the previous training camp, the Cowboys secured the services of receiver KaVontae Turpin. Coming from the New Jersey Generals, also from the USFL, he became one of the team’s pleasant surprises. Him being the punt return specialist and a key player on the Cowboys’ special teams.

“It’s one of the great things these leagues offer,” Stephen Jones said in June, based on signing a kicker from the USFL. ”Just like we found Turpin last year. The staff is doing an excellent job evaluating all of these guys. We’ll see where we end up.”

Without a doubt, this was the element that was missing before the competitions in Oxnard and in the offices they have been able to cover it. Now, what remains to be seen is if the boy lives up to what the organization demands. Or failing him, if he can do the job equal to or better than not only Vizcaino, but the league veterans who remain as free agents. All these are questions that are going to remain in the air. At least until Dallas starts training in California. What is totally true is that the kicker duel is going to be interesting.
