Tampa Bay Rays Pitcher Drew Rasmussen to Undergo Third Elbow Surgery

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen will undergo elbow surgery for the third time.

Team manager Kevin Cash said ahead of Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves that Rasmussen’s surgery is scheduled for July 24, with Dr. Keith Meister.

“He will unfortunately miss the rest of the season,” Cash said. The doctor considered it the best option to get him back as quickly and as healthy as possible. »

Cash hasn’t ruled out the possibility of seeing Rasmussen return to action around mid-season next year.

Rasmussen, whose name has been on the 60-day injured list since May 12 due to a pulled right elbow, underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2016 and August 2017.

Going into the sidelines, Rasmussen went 4-2 with a 2.62 GAA in eight starts. In 2022, he went 11-7 with an average of 2.84 in 28 starts.

The 27-year-old gunner had a perfect game until the ninth inning on August 14 against the Baltimore Orioles. Six days later, against the Kansas City Royals, he went all the way to the sixth inning without allowing a hit.
