Swedish Tennis Player Mikael Ymer Suspended for 18 Months for Missed Doping Tests

The Swedish Mikael Ymer (51st at the ATP) was suspended for 18 months for having missed three doping tests in less than a year, between April and November 2021. Subject to a sanction in January 2022, he had been cleared by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) six months later. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) appealed the decision.

The CAS finally recorded an 18-month suspension against the 24-year-old player, while the ITF requested a 2-year period of suspension. “Having already been exonerated once, I find it unfair their decision to try me again and find me guilty afterwards”, lamented the Swede on his Twitter account.

Mikael Ymer accepts the first two breaches of doping controls (April 22 and August 10, 2021) but disputes the third, which occurred on November 7. Hosted in a different hotel from the one planned, his agent had not made the change in the whereabouts file. “I don’t think I broke these rules and I have a clear conscience,” defended the player.
