Surprising Turnaround: Baltimore Orioles Tie Tampa Bay Rays for Division Lead

Major League Baseball (MLB) has a new surprise in this 2023 season as the Baltimore Orioles, the same team that a couple of years ago had the worst record in the Major Leagues, tied the Tampa Bay Rays for the East Division lead of the American League after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 on Wednesday at Camden Yards.

Now the Orioles (58-37) head to Tampa Bay for a four-game series against the Rays (60-39), a clash between the top two teams in the American League with the top spot in the East Division. of the American League at stake; the series opener will be Thursday night at Tropicana Field.

At the end of his game, the Orioles had the second best record in the Major Leagues as his winning percentage (.656) surpassed that of the Rays (.606).

Baltimore’s bats got hot again against Mexican pitcher Julio Urías, who was blown out for eight runs in 5.0 innings. His compatriot Ramón Urías (3-2, 2 doubles and 3 CI) and Gunnar Henderson (with his 15th home run of the year) boosted the Orioles’ offense.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Baltimore became the eighth team in American League/National League history to not being swept in 70 consecutive series. The most recent had been a streak of 72 series by the Braves between 2003 and 2005, and the record is 125, set by the Cardinals between 1942 and 1944.
