Support the Tokyo Gakugei University Judo Club: Aiming for Victory and Growth

self-introduction

Tokyo Gakugei University judo club.

It was founded in 1949 when the university was founded. We currently have 10 men and 27 women.

Many of the departments and courses to which members belong are health and physical education and sports, but there are also students in social studies and art.

Under the slogan of “Smile, Effort, Unity”, everyone is smiling and working hard every day. We are a group that enjoys judo from the bottom of our hearts, with a good atmosphere during practice and everyone’s smiles shining. The goal is to grow through activities, and to win top prizes and win national competitions.

Aiming to be the team that enjoys team competitions the most in Japan, we are pursuing victory in order to have fun. There are many people who are both literary and martial arts, and who are working hard on judo while studying, aiming to become a teacher. Rather than working on judo only from the perspective of improving competitiveness, I thought about contributing to the spread of judo by working on various things such as children exercising on tatami mats and supporting judo for the visually impaired. I’m here.

This is a picture after the joint practice meeting in April 2023.

Every year, during the spring break, schools where judo club alumni are advisors gather and hold joint training.

At the student tournament held in Hyogo in March 2023, the boys won the second division, and the two girls won the championship and the runner-up.

Judo club graduates are also active.

Two graduates won the 2023 All Japan Invitational Judo Weight Category Championships.

In June 2023, he made it to the top 8 at the All Japan Student Judo Tournament, winning the prize for the second year in a row.

Next time, next time, I want to stand at the top!

How the project started

In recent years, the team’s competitiveness has improved, winning national championships in individual competitions, placing in the top eight in women’s team competitions, and placing third in men’s national university judo championships.

Among the alumni are Natsumi Tsunoda, who won three consecutive world championships, and Kimi Takano and Tomoka Arakawa, who won the All Japan Judo Championships by Weight Category. (Latest news: At the end of June 2023, senior Tsunoda has been selected to represent Japan in the Olympics!) However, since it is a national university, there is not much support from the university for the activities of the club. It consists of support from people and support from alumni associations.

Travel expenses and transportation and accommodation expenses for participating in tournaments are borne by yourself, so it is always financially difficult. Many students work part-time to cover their living expenses and activity expenses. Also, there is no air conditioner in the practice environment, and compared to other powerhouse universities, it is a harsh environment with hot summers and cold winters.

Until now, our seniors have worked hard to practice while facing difficulties in terms of funding and the environment. So this time, I came to the idea that I would like to challenge crowdfunding and ask for activity funds.

If we can reduce the financial burden and reduce the frequency of part-time jobs, we are confident that we will be able to concentrate more on our regular training and improve our competitiveness.

Content of the project

The collected funds are planned to be used for expenses related to participation in the tournament (participation fee, transportation fee, accommodation fee), expedition expenses, etc.

Then, we will do our best to compete in national competitions and aim for top prizes as a judo club with the best atmosphere in Japan. I believe that the judo club with the best atmosphere in Japan is the judo club that recognizes that it is thanks to the support of many people, never forgets to be grateful, and receives support.

The main competitions are as follows.

May Tokyo Student Judo Tournament (finished)
June All Japan Student Judo Tournament (finished)
July Tokyo Junior Judo Championships by Weight Category
September Tokyo Student Judo Championships by Weight Category, All Japan Junior Judo Championships by Weight Category
October All Japan Student Judo Championships by Weight Category, All Japan Student Judo Championships by Weight Category
November Kodokan Cup All Japan Judo Championships by Weight Category

If you add up the participation fee, transportation fee, and accommodation fee for these competitions, you will need more than 1 million yen.

If the project is successful, we plan to use the money for tournament participation, transportation, accommodation, and expedition expenses from October onwards.

*In the event that due to unavoidable circumstances, you are unable to participate in a tournament you plan to participate in after October or the tournament is not held, the support money you receive will be used for other annual activities in 2023 (training camp expenses, unofficial We will use it for expenses related to participating in the game, expedition expenses other than the game).

Prospects and vision of the project

With support for activity expenses, I can put more effort into judo than ever before. Even in the environment so far, we have achieved competitive results, but I think we can improve our results even further.

Currently, the judo population is steadily declining. Compared to private powerhouses, the degree of decline in national universities is remarkable. In order for judo to continue to be attractive in Japan, we need a diverse range of judo practitioners.

I want to create a judo club with the best atmosphere in Japan, create a new style in the judo world, and change the image of judo as being tough. I hope that judokas who graduate from this judo club will become teachers and be able to provide excellent instruction.

Compared to private universities, national universities lack facilities for club activities as competitions. On the other hand, all students who belong to our university have the potential to play an active role in the country and the world. Above all, they enjoy judo and are full of desire to take it seriously. By improving the current activity environment, we can reduce the burden on students and improve competition results. In addition, by creating an environment that is attractive to high school students who are thinking about going on to higher education, it will lead to a cyclical development of the club.

We also believe that it will lead to more active participation in activities to spread judo, such as cooperating with judo classes and judo for the visually impaired. Our university’s judo club, which is learning cutting-edge pedagogy, is the team that can contribute most to the spread of judo.

We, the Tokyo Gakugei University Judo Club, want to become stronger together, and we want to aim for even greater heights together.

In order to make this happen, we need funds, so we ask for your help.
