Stuttgart’s coach retires – Sport

Volleyball coach Tore Aleksandersen, who is seriously ill with cancer, is no longer available to the German champions Allianz MTV Stuttgart. In the coming season, Konstantin Bitter will take over as coach, as the Swabian Bundesliga team announced on Monday. Aleksandersen will “focus fully on his health,” it said. “Because of the treatment I’m undergoing right now, I know that I can’t muster the energy level that is required to be the head coach of a top team like Allianz MTV Stuttgart, to conduct the training sessions, prepare the analysis of the opponents or prepare for long trips away to go,” said two-time champion and cup winner Aleksandersen.

The move of his successor to Stuttgart had already been announced in mid-March, when Bitter was still working as a trainer at Black and White Erfurt. However, it was not yet certain in which constellation the Swabians would tackle the new season. “Fortunately, we made the decision before the end of last season to sign Konstantin Bitter, a young, talented coach who will now go into the future with us,” said sporting director Kim Oszvald-Renkema. “Obviously it’s a shame for all of us that the time has come when we owe a lot to goals. He’s the most successful coach in the club’s history, from whom I’ve learned a lot. I hope he’ll take us to another role is retained.”
