Sainz would rather have Hamilton than Verstappen as a teammate: “Can learn from him”

If Carlos Sainz could choose his new teammate, he would prefer Lewis Hamilton over Max Verstappen. The Spaniard previously drove alongside Verstappen at Toro Rosso, but where the Dutchman broke through at Red Bull, Sainz ended up at Renault, McLaren and eventually Ferrari.

It is well known that things were tough behind the scenes at Toro Rosso, where both Verstappen and Sainz wanted to be leaders. However, that is not the reason for Sainz to express his preference for Hamilton now, he says to The Express. He simply thinks he can learn more from Hamilton, who has been active in Formula 1 since 2007 and became world champion seven times.

“I’ve been Max’s teammate before, so I know we would get along and have a good relationship,” he begins his explanation. “I’ve never driven alongside Lewis, but I think it’s only good for your career to be a teammate of someone who has won seven championships. You can only learn from that.”

The conclusion is therefore clear, although Sainz immediately makes a small comment. “Let’s try something different: I’m going for Lewis. Although I must honestly say that I don’t care who my teammate is. I can work with anyone,” said Sainz, who is also asked where we can expect his next victory. “Monza, Spain and Monaco are the places where I would like to win for Ferrari.”
