BASEBALL. The Saint-Fred chose their moment badly to suffer a first defeat at home.
In an important duel for the classification of the Vallée-des-Forts Senior Baseball League (LBSVF), Friday evening, at the Jacques-Desautels stadium, the Drummondvilloise team was defeated 5-3 by the Sorel-Tracy Marlins.
More opportunistic early in the game, the Marlins scored two runs in the second inning before seeing the Brewers take the lead in the fourth. The visitors came back in the fifth and sixth innings to have the last word.
By winning, the Marlins (7-4) increased their lead over Saint-Fred (5-6) in fourth place overall. A setback that left a bitter taste in the mouth of player-coach David Bentamy.
“Tonight, we didn’t have the chance to run. We had good contact on the ball, but high up. We left far too many players on goal. It’s really frustrating, because we know we can beat them. We have more depth and talent than them. Losing such a game in front of our fans is really frustrating for me,” dropped David Bentamy, who had seen his team lose 5-1 to the Longueuil Phillies (9-1) two days earlier.

Author of a solid defensive and batting performance, Dave St-Jacques was named player of the game in the Brewers camp. Tommy Rozon also produced a run thanks to an optional.

On the mound, starter Xavier Simoneau was the victim of five runs on eight hits in five and a third innings. He struck out seven batters. Kevin Lefebvre gave nothing in relief.
The Saint-Fred will host the defending champions of the last three seasons in the LBSVF, the Granby Indians (11-1), Thursday evening, starting at 8 p.m.
“It’s the perfect time to show that we have character. I believe we have a good team capable of competing against them,” concluded David Bentamy.
