Saint-Denis Hosts Exciting Month of Sporting Events: Terre de Jeux 2024

Regional, national or even international sports competitions, the city of Saint-Denis will be a meeting place for hundreds of athletes throughout the month of July. Named “Terre de Jeux 2024”, the capital will host “exceptional sporting encounters”said Ericka Bareigts, mayor of Saint-Denis, during a press conference at the Champ Fleuri gymnasium.

These events focused on the next few weeks will bring “international show at home” and will strengthen the status of the town as a “sports capital city” according to her. Thus, this 100% sport month began on Thursday with the first edition of the Overseas Boxing Trophy. This brand new competition welcomed boxers from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyanese but also Mauritians and Seychellois at the Champ Fleuri gymnasium until this Saturday.

Ten fights were organized per day and the event was able to count on the presence of three champions and two vice-champions of France. This new tournament is intended to tour all of the French overseas territories and should be good preparation for the Island Games.

120 drivers for the Reunion Rally

After boxing, badminton will settle in Saint-Denis. Indeed, on July 22 and 23, the Champ Fleuri gymnasium will welcome nearly 250 badminton players for the International Badminton Tournament (TIB). This competition will precede a second Dionysian World Open from July 26 to 30.

The tournament will notably see athletes from 50 different countries, some of whom are among the world’s top 30, compete against each other, still at the Champ Fleuri gymnasium.

Finally, to conclude this intense month of July, the 54th edition of the Tour Auto will take place from 28 to 30. The rally will pass through Saint-Denis and nearly 30% of the special will be organized in the town. No less than 120 pilots from Reunion, Mauritius, Madagascar or France have already registered and a waiting list has even been set up in response to the enthusiasm generated by the event.

Note, for this 54th edition, the return of the legendary “Trois-Bancs” stage, after nine years of absence, and the presence of the iconic driver Michèle Mouton as guest of honor for this rally.
