The Russian Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz’s rival in the Wimbledon semifinals, described playing against the Spaniard as “interesting”, highlighting his “power”.

The Russian defeated Christopher Eubanks in the quarterfinals and will face the Spaniard in the semifinals, in what will be the second game between the two this year after the Indian Wells final that Alcaraz took.

“I think Indian Wells is not going to count for much here. It was a very slow court. Here the serve is going to be very important and there I couldn’t get free points with it,” Medvedev explained at a press conference.

“I’ve seen some of his matches, I watched Matteo for a while. It’s interesting to play against someone like Carlos. He’s an incredible tennis player and he’s only 20 years old. What he does is spectacular. He doesn’t stop and I don’t think he will, but I’ve already I’ve played against a lot of great players in my career and I’ve managed to win many times, so if I do my best I’ll have chances.”

The Russian, winner of the US Open in 2021, stressed that the power of the Spanish is what impresses him the most. “When I was 17, which wasn’t that long ago, I was a lot less mature, which is normal. It failed more. Everyone could see that it was amazing, but people wondered if he could find a way to fail less while producing the same power. And he did it very quickly.”

“If you leave him an easy ball, you can be in trouble. The most normal thing is that he gets a winner. With Novak, Andy or Rafa, you have the feeling that you might get to the blow, but then they’re going to hit another 20. With Carlos, you might not even get to the first. Sometimes that blow is brutal. I think it is the most powerful of his game and what I will have to deal with”, added the one from Moscow.
