The regional Judo team of the School Sports Games will compete in the national final that will take place in the Biobío region, and the organization is the responsibility of the National Institute of Sports.
The regional selective tournament called for students from schools in the province of Elqui in the sub 14 and youth categories of the School Sports Games. The objective of the tournament was to form the regional under 14 team, which will represent the region in the next 2023 School Sports Games. These will take place in the city of Concepción during the first days of September.
More than eighty judokas, both men and women, participated in this initiative, representing the communes of La Serena, Coquimbo, Ovalle and La Higuera. Among the winners are Martin Fuentevilla from the Altovalsol Intercultural School in the -40 category, Maximiliano Zepeda from the Altazor School in Coquimbo in the -48 category, Reihj Rojano Alcala from the Coquimbo School in the -44 category, Joaquín Tabilo from the Kombux School in the category -53, Sebastian Darat from the Francis School in the -58 category, and Damian Torres from the Adventist College in the +64 category.
On the other hand, among the winners in the female category are Catalina Ortiz from Colegio Altazor in category -40, Violeta Prra Ikeda from Liceo Gregorio Cordoves in category -48, Abigail Rozas from Colegio Altazor in category -44, Ariany Silva López from the Héroes de la Concepción School in the -58 category, Karoline Ortiz Silva from the María Educa School in Coquimbo in the -64 category, and Meylin Espejo Rojas from the María De Andacollo School in the +64 category.
In addition, during the day, the federated judges took the initiative to take a break in the competition to explain different modalities of the regulations and peculiarities of the competition. This was done in order to prevent fouls from occurring during matches. They also provided advice and training to both the participants and their coaches, in relation to behaviors typical of judokas and martial arts in general.
