Another sprint weekend awaits us at the Belgian Grand Prix. Since last season, a mini race has been held on Saturday at selected Grand Prix events. The best drivers are rewarded with a smaller number of championship points. Formula 1 hopes that the change will result in higher ratings in the sessions apart from the race Sunday.
However, the sprint race does not only affect the course of Saturday. The regular schedule on Friday is also thrown into confusion. The second free practice session of the day is skipped in favor of qualifying, which normally takes place on Saturday.
The free practice sessions are normally used by the racing teams to gather plenty of data, which in turn can help with strategic and tactical decisions. Since the format was introduced, however, there has been criticism from the ranks of the teams. World champion Max Verstappen also vented his displeasure.

If you want to follow today’s qualifying in the live stream, you need a subscription to the streaming service Wow (formerly SkyTicket). Here you get access to all sports content that parent company Sky is currently available. In addition to the Formula 1 sessions, games from the first and second Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and much more are also included. The cost point amounts to 24.99 euros per month in the annual tariff. SkyGo continues to be a point of contact for customers.
Transmission begins at 4:45 p.m. Sascha Roos and expert Timo Glock sit at the commentator’s table.
