Pilar Lamadrid consolidates second place in the world ranking in the iQFoil class

At the gates of a new international commitment, Pilar Lamadrid (They are from here / Livinda / Puerto Sherry / Fundación Andalucía Olímpica) has seen her privileged position consolidated in the international ranking of the new discipline of windsurfing. This has been made official by the world’s highest sailing body by updating the ranking of the different classes, in which the Sevillian based in El Puerto de Santa María sits at number 2 in iQFoil.

After the sixth position reached in the European Championship held in Greece in May, the Puerto Sherry Yacht Club sailor maintains the second position in the classification of the new Olympic discipline of the tables. In this way, she is confirmed for the umpteenth time in the top ten of a modality that she has already led for several months, specifically from June 8, 2022 to February 14, 2023.

It should be noted that since then, Lamadrid, who is speeding up his training these days for the dispute in Marseille, starting on Tuesday, July 11, of the Tes event of the Olympic Games, has not dropped from the top 5 of the international ranking. In fact, on February 14 she moved to the third position, on April 18 she was fourth in the next update and on May 9 she jumped to second, which she now maintains.

The current Spanish champion, who this season has accumulated three victories on the international calendar (Bahía de Cádiz New Year’s Regatta, Lanzarote iQFoil Games and Andalusia Olympic Week), accumulates 746 points. In this sense, it asserts the fourth and fifth positions in the 2021 and 2022 World Championships, the aforementioned victory and sixth place in the Lanzarote iQFoil Games and the 2023 European Championship, respectively, and 16th place in the Princesa Sofía Trophy in Palma, Valid for the World Cup.

Ahead of the leader of the Spanish pre-Olympic team in the discipline, with only 41 points and one more computed test, is the British Islay Watson, world runner-up in 2021 and whom, curiously, Pilar Lamadrid has won this season in all competitions except in Sofia.

The top 3 in the world ranking of the iQFoil class is closed with 740 points by the Israeli Sharon Kantor, who this season has been runner-up in Europe, third in Lanzarote and fifth in Sofia.
