Peruvian Delegation Gears Up for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games

Peruvian delegation prepares to face the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games

The countdown started. After a successful and historic development of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, which put our country in the crosshairs of the entire continent, now it is time to give rise to the next edition of said multisport event. The most anticipated event in recent years by thousands of athletes, for athletes and fans.

The next edition of the Pan American and Parapan American Games will be held for the first time in history in Chile, precisely in the capital: Santiago. The greatest attention on the continent will be focused on this city, which in recent years has been filled with new and modern infrastructures to host the event in the best possible way.

Santiago de Chile was the only city that presented itself as a candidate for the organization of the nineteenth edition of the event -after Buenos Aires was ruled out (for budgetary reasons)-; however, the representatives of the countries that make up the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) still had to approve it. So it was.

By unanimous vote, Santiago was officially chosen to host the next Pan American and Parapan American Games, a historic event for Chile, since they had never hosted this multi-sport event before. This will be the first time.

Previously, the 1975 and 1987 editions of the Games were scheduled to take place in the Chilean capital, but in both cases the economic, social and political crisis in the southern country led to the venue being moved to Mexico City and Indianapolis, respectively. Today the story is completely different.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the largest multi-sport event in the history of Chile, will open on October 20 and will run until November 5, when all the competitions have ended and the general medal table has been closed.

In the edition of these Pan American Games, 58 sports will be presented, being 47 of the Olympic program and 11 non-Olympic. The disciplines that will debut in Santiago 2023 will be breaking (it will also make its debut in Paris 2024), sport climbing and skateboarding. As for the Parapan American Games, there will be 17 para sports that will take place in the Chilean capital.

It should be noted that some sports from the Olympic program that will be played in Santiago 2023 will serve as a qualifier for Paris 2024. Below, find out about all the sports that will take place soon in the next edition of the Games:
