Orlando City will be the rival of Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Wednesday in the round of 32 tie of the Leagues Cup, in a duel between neighboring teams from the state of Florida (southeast).

City earned first place in South Group 2 thanks to a goal in the 90+2 minute by Peruvian Wilder Cartagena that gave them a 3-2 win against Mexican Santos Laguna this Saturday in the last game of the key.

In addition to City, where the young Uruguayan Facundo Torres and Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese play, the Houston Dynamo also advanced to the playoffs while Santos Laguna, third, was eliminated.

Revitalized with the arrival of Messi and Sergio Busquets, Inter Miami also finished top of Group 3 with a full two victories and will host the duel against Orlando City at their stadium.

Orlando City beat Santos from Mexico this Saturday and met Inter Miami in the next phase.

The Mexican Cruz Azul was the other qualifier for Inter by defeating Atlanta United 5-4 on penalties this Saturday, which said goodbye to the tournament.

The Argentine Thiago Almada, world champion in Qatar-2022, scored the United goal that placed the tie 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

For the first time, this year the Leagues Cup brings together the 47 teams from the MLS (United States and Canada) and the Mexican league in a month-long tournament that will culminate in the final on August 19.
