Organizers of Hamburg’s Rothenbaum Tennis Tournaments Aims for WTA 500 Level in Coming Years

The organizers of the tennis tournaments at Hamburg’s Rothenbaum are confident of raising their women’s events to a WTA 500 level in the coming years. “This application is now in the process,” said Chairman Peter Michael Reichel in a press conference on Saturday. For 2025 he could “actually almost guarantee that we will make it.”

Reichel, who holds the license for the event on the Alster together with his daughter and tournament director Sandra Reichel, is part of the highest WTA committee “Board of Directors”. MatchMaker is currently organizing the WTA 250 tournament in the Hanseatic city as a combined event with the men’s tournament in the 500 category. However, the German Tennis Association has granted the license for the ATP event to Tennium from 2024.

The Reichels announced talks with Tennium as to whether there could be a combined men’s and women’s tournament in Hamburg next year.
