This weekend, the CCI 4*-S in Alnwick, England received so many competitors that it was split into two sections. These respectively saw Olivier Townend and Piggy March win this Saturday 29 July.

In the saddle on Tregilder, ninth in the CCI 5*-L of Luhmühlen in mid-June and author of many fine performances in 4*, the former world number one and Olympic team champion achieved one of the only two maxis of the day yesterday and thus kept his 27.1 dressage penalties, which allowed him to win. Just behind him, his compatriot Rosalind Canter added only two points of time exceeded during cross country to his 26 dressage points with Izilot DHI, which allowed him to finish sixth in the CCIO 4*-L at Boekelo in October. then fourth in the CCIO 4*-S at Chatsworth in May, but which she had withdrawn from the CCI 4*-L at Bramham after a disobedience during the cross in June. In this first section of the Alwinck CCI 4*-S, third place went to Piggy March, who totaled 35 penalties at the reins of Halo.

The world and European team champion also claimed victory in the second section of the competition, this time in the saddle on Coolparks Sarco, after a very good dressage in 24.6 points and a cross finished with 1.2 penalty. Oliver Townend also made it to the podium for a second time, as he led his brilliant Ballaghmor Class, ranked four times in the Top five of the Badminton CCI 5*-L and winner of that of Lexington in 2021, at the second position. The couple, also crowned Olympic champions with the British collective in Tokyo, added only 1.6 points of time exceeded during the middle distance test to their 24.4 dressage penalties. Emily King, meanwhile, completed the top three with her Selle Français Valmy Biats and a score of 26.5 points.
