Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek Dominate in the Third Round of Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek reached the third round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament on Wednesday without losing a set.

While Swiatek only needed 70 minutes for her 6: 2, 6: 1 over Sara Sorribes Tormo (ESP), Jordan Thompson brought Djokovic into his 6: 3, 7: 6 (4), 7: 5 success over two and a half hours Sweat. The Australian couldn’t change anything about the Serb’s 350th victory at a major.

Djokovic is the third player after Roger Federer and Serena Williams to reach this mark. Of course, the 36-year-old, number two, has higher goals in Wimbledon: He is aiming for the eighth Wimbledon triumph or the fifth in a row.

“He played a strong match and deserves the applause,” the overpowering Djokovic congratulated his opponent.

The next opponent is the winner from Tomas Etcheverry (ARG) against Stan Wawrinka (SUI). Jannik Sinner (ITA-8) is also in the third round after beating Diego Schwartzmann (ARG) 7:5, 6:1, 6:2.

Zverev is waiting for the start

Swiatek lived up to her reputation as the world number one, reached the third round in the Mecca for the third time in a row and now has to deal with either Diane Parry (FRA) or Petra Martic (CRO).

“I feel good and happy, which doesn’t often happen in Wimbledon,” said the Polish French Open winner afterwards. “I’ve learned a lot and now I can adapt my game to the pitch.”

The rain again played a major role. 21 games scheduled for Wednesday were postponed, including those of Andrej Rublev, Alexander Zverev, Sofia Kenin and Viktoria Asarenka.

Zverev starts his third attempt on Wednesday to finally play his first round game. Actually, the game should have taken place on Tuesday.
