Notable debut for SD Samertolaméu

The Sociedad Deportiva Samertolaméu Fandicosta more than fulfilled his return to the Eusko Label de Traineras League, achieving the ninth place in the Bandeira Cidade da Coruñain a regatta marked by complicated weather conditions, with waves of more than two meters and strong gusts of wind. The victory went to the surprising Ziérbena Bahías de Bizkaia of a Moaño technician like Dani Pérez, that Meira changed for the Basque team this season after achieving promotion with the greens.

After the suspension of the day on Saturday, there were no problems for boarding of the crews on the Riazor beach, taking advantage of the low tide. So things, David Costa, in charge of taking over from Pérez, bet for a first team starter in which he formed along with Marco Antonio Castelao, Daniel Fernandez, Sergio Enrique Rodriguez, Ismael Curro, Manuel Bernardez, Alejandro Patino, Jose Ramon Duran, Francisco Rodriguez, Jacobo Lusquinos, Alejandro Rivas, Manuel Angel Gondar and Jose Boubeta, with Jacobo Gayo returning to the ACT as skipper. A squad that he mixed seniority with youth and in which he stood out greatly the presence of eight homegrown players. Los Tercos land in the League boasting of a project for the future.

The moañeses rowed in a first round in which Hondarribia wanted to demonstrate his status as favorite. He set the pace from the start, but with Ondárroa hooked to his stern, while Meira’s men held a one-on-one with Kaiku at 17-18 seconds. The tack of David Costa’s men was better and they put themselves ahead of Sestao’s men, tuning in a length in which they were the best of their batch. As they passed through the ciaboga, they kept their distance from Hondarribia and Ondárroa, but they already had seven seconds behind Kaiku. And in the last two lengths Samertolaméu was not particularly fine, but she was good enough to increase her income with Kaiku and secure third place in the session.

The second batch crowned Ziérbena Bahías de Bizkaiawho started four seconds behind Orio but who knew how to exploit the lap lengths to take control and to set a great time –taking into account yesterday–, with Getaria completing another good regatta in second place place and Orio more discreet in third place.

the last round, that of the current champion, Urdaibai, was marked by the greater incidence of wind and waves. It was a battle against the elements, with those from Bermeo resigning themselves to winning Donostiarra, since their partials were not close to those of Ziérbena. The other battle was that of Meira to get two other teams below, Cabo da Cruz, and a sunken Santurtzi that reached the finish line almost a minute and a half behind the winner of the test. SD Samertolaméu starts the League on the right foot.

David Costa: “We met our goal, but I’m not happy”

Satisfied with the position achieved, but not with the regatta. This is how David Costa showed himself in his debut as coach of SD Samertolaméu in the Eusko Label League. “That ninth place is circumstantial due to all the conditions that were involved in the regatta. What is real is that we lost to Ondárroa and Hondarribia, and we beat Kaiku”, points. Overtaking Cabo and Santurtzi “is very good, but we will have to see how we are compared to them next week, when we are in the same batch”. The trainer –who also rowed– assures that “In the first two lengths we were good. In fact, the second length was the best of the entire batch. But in the last two we did not know how to adaptWe wanted to run a lot and we didn’t finish the wave”.
