Under his leadership, Stefan Ortega Moreno matured into the Bundesliga’s top keeper and this year was a treble winner with Manchester City. Marco Kostmann is now tasked with taking new signing Finn Dahmen to the next level at FC Augsburg.

Like almost the entire staff, the 57-year-old had to go into the 3rd division after Bielefeld was relegated, but he still enjoys a good reputation in East Westphalia – just like in Manchester. “The club not only loses a professional in sport,” Ortega Moreno recently commented on a Bielefeld post on Instagram. “The next club will be happy to have you. Thank you, just thank you!”

In April of the previous year, Kostmann even stepped in for four games as interim coach, but was no longer able to prevent DSC from being relegated to the Bundesliga. In addition to Kostmann, Quirin Löppert is coming to FCA as another rehabilitation and athletics trainer. The 36-year-old was last employed as an athletic trainer at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“In order to be able to improve in many details, it is important that we have experts in the team who complement each other and do everything together to ensure that we are successful,” explained Managing Director Sport Stefan Reuter. “We are convinced that these new positions and the additional staff will allow us to work even more individually with the players.”

Kostmann inherits Barbuscak

In Augsburg, the native of Rostock inherits Kristian Barbuscak, who has looked after Rafal Gikiewicz and Co. since 2020. After the Pole’s contract was not extended, Barbuscak must now also move on.
