The baseball players of the Neuenburg Atomics conceded two defeats (3:4 and 0:7) at the end of their placement games in the second Bundesliga Southwest at the undefeated leaders Mainz Athletics II. The first game was tight, with the Atomics taking a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning after hits from Luca Mayer and Tim-Luca Lindemann. But Mainz promptly brought three runners to first base, and even a double change in pitcher position (Luca Meyer, Joshua Steigert, then David Widmann) couldn’t prevent the Athletics from turning the game around with four points. In the second game, Atomics coach Rob Piscatelli gave the whole roster playing time. With eleven wins and five defeats, Neuchâtel will go into the playoffs in third or fourth place in the table. The schedule and opponents have not yet been determined.
