NBA Star Dennis Schröder Clarifies Criticism of National Team Colleague Maximilian Kleber

NBA star Dennis Schröder has put his criticism of national team colleague Maximilian Kleber into perspective and feels misunderstood.

“It wasn’t meant badly,” said the 29-year-old in a video published on his YouTube channel, adding: “Maxi, if that came across as weird in any way, then I apologize. That should be zero negative.” In the “Got Nexxt” podcast, Captain Schröder criticized Kleber’s nomination for preparation for the upcoming World Cup (August 25 to September 10) in Asia because he had canceled for the European Championship last year. The German Basketball Association (DBB) wants to deal with the topic internally.

Schröder was dissatisfied with the reasoning behind the cancellation of the Dallas Mavericks’ head coach, Kleber, who was suffering from knee problems at the time. “I always stand by my word and I always say what I think. There isn’t any kind of fire there, »said Schröder in the almost seven-minute clip and explained his position. “I just don’t think it’s okay if you weren’t at the start last year and the people who were at the start, who sacrificed their summer, that it’s for the ‘ne ass card, because it’s now: So and so is coming with me, so you can’t come with me.”

Schröder feels misunderstood by the media

From his point of view, Schröder described it as “unfair” if players are preferred who were not part of the national team last year. At the same time, however, the team captain made it clear that the decision on the nomination clearly rests with national coach Herbert. “As a captain, you should stand up for your players,” said Schröder. The many media reports about his statements in the direction of Kleber surprised the builder: “I don’t think it’s okay that the media always try to set some fire.”

At the 2022 European Championship, the national team sensationally won bronze under Schröder’s leadership, and the goals are also high at the World Cup. “Like last year, we will try to make history because of course we have a lot of talent in the dressing room,” said Schröder, who will play for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA next season.
