National: coach Laurent Peyrelade signs two years at FC Versailles

Change of profile on the bench of FC Versailles. As we indicated last week, the Yvelines club has set its sights on Laurent Peyrelade to fill the coaching position left vacant by Cris. The signing of the 53-year-old technician was formalized this Saturday by the National team. He signed up for two seasons with the Ile-de-France team.

While Cris, a former emblematic Ligue 1 and Lyon player, had only accumulated two and a half years of experience at the head of a first team before being appointed head of Versailles in November 2022, Peyrelade coming out of a seven-year stint in Rodez. Like the Brazilian coach, he went through Le Mans, but it was in Aveyron that he made the biggest impression.

To his credit: two promotions. First from N2 to N1, in 2016-2017. He also knows the path linking the third division to Ligue 2. During the 2018-2019 financial year, Rodez was invited to the second level of French football, before stabilizing there for three years with one of the most small budgets of the championship.

This season, the Versaillese were ranked in 5th place in the championship. Alain Giresse’s assistant in the Kosovo selection, Sébastien Bichard was for a time expected to inherit the position, but it is indeed Peyrelade who will be responsible for meeting the ambitions of the club which has appointed a new head of recruitment in the person of Salomon Kashala.

During the week, FC Versailles also announced that it would benefit from a new training center from Monday July 3. The Yvelines club will take advantage of the former facilities of the PSG women’s team, in Bougival.
