National Basketball Team Manager Recognizes Tremont Waters and George Conditt as ‘Champions’

The manager of the National Basketball Team, Nelson Colón, ran into his players Tremont Waters and George Conditt on Monday in a meeting with the press at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum and called them by a well-deserved name: “Champions”.

A week ago, on the same stage, Colón would not have called them that, although the greeting would have come from the technician who has always shown manners with or without cameras present.

The rivalry between the Bayamón and Colón Vaqueros and the also shortlisted Ysmael Romero and Stephen Thompson against the Carolina Giants, de Waters, Conditt and assistant Carlos González ended on Thursday in Bayamón, when the Carolinians won the first national title of their history. What is left now for all of them is Puerto Rico above all else.

It is not the first time that this type of integration has occurred in the National Team between BSN rivals, nor will it be the last.

“It is a level of integration to which they are already accustomed,” says Colón.

It is also an integration that will benefit the national team, he added.

“Because of the experience that the BSN has already given us, we change our mentality once it ends. When Conditt, Tremont, and Carlos arrived, we welcomed them and congratulated them from the bottom of our hearts. They had an incredible postseason and a spectacular final”, acknowledged Colón. “And we hope that what they did, and with that contact we have, that they bring us that magic and help us get ahead for Puerto Rico.”

Conditt was particularly a match for the Cowboys’ scorers in the paint in the BSN final. His defense was notable, including against Romero, with whom he now shares a jersey in the National Team.

Colón’s assistant and manager of the Giants, González, saw Conditt in Carolina, as well as in the first practices of the National Team, and confirmed that he is capable of bringing to the National Team the “magic” that Colón is asking for.

“Conditt looks in rhythm, although a bit tired, which is normal due to the stage he’s been through. He looks very confident in what he is doing. It is very positive for us,” said González.

The health of the players is not compromised, although some came to the National Team with injuries, Colón said. Of the 14 active players in the shortlist, four were active in the BSN final until last Thursday. They will have almost a month of training and blanks to reach the World Cup in top form.

“They are fine, thank God,” Colón thanked.

“There are injuries. There were blows. But that’s part of his job. But there is health, which is the most important thing. Everyone is doing pretty well,” she added.

Conditt confirmed that they have had a good integration, especially because it is about the work they know how to do: play basketball.

“Ultimately what we do is play basketball,” he said. “With the time we have, we integrate and we will play better every day.”
